All three mountains offer plenty of gentle slopes and good ski schools, perfect for complete beginners or those who just want to take it easy. Lake Louise and Sunshine Village are especially great, since beginners can get around pretty much the whole area on easy slopes.
Sunshine Village and Lake Louise offer endless runs for the intermediate skier, plus there are some gentle bowls for the adventurous. If you're looking to progress, try mastering both the Ladies' and Mens' Downhill courses in Lake Louise.
An expert's playground, the back bowls on Lake Louise are phenomenal. On Sunshine, try the steeps and bumps on Goats Eye Mountain and, if you are after a real challenge, then Delirium Dive is for pros only.
Banff boasts amazing off piste thanks to huge amounts of snowfall and high tree lines which, in turn, create some fantastic tree routes for the more experienced skiers. Mount Norquay is the best for powder - Long Pine run is definitely one to try - while Lake Louise has plenty of beween-the-piste opportunities for you to get stuck into. Louise's backside bowls also have tough challenges - some runs may be vertical, but the challenge is rewarding, especially on powder days. Lastly, Sunshine's Delirium Drive and Wild West backcountry areas (accessed at an entry gate that's manned by a snow patroller) have steep chutes and varied terrain.
Banff has great riding for all abilities, and, what's more, there's no draglifts. Freeriders should head for the Mystic Ridge lift on Mount Norquay for the best slopes on the mountain, where long blue runs snake through the trees, and even an airbag jump. Sunshine Mountain has one of the best terrain parks in the Rockies, with loads of features to test your skills. The Roger's terrain park is accessed using the Continental Divide chairlift and offers dozens of boxes, jumps, tubes and rails. And, if you're not satisfied with your day's riding, Banff even offers night riding to really get your adrenaline pumping.
