For those staying in Neustift there is an excellent local ski school, which usually starts on the gentle nursery runs on the Stubai Glacier.
This truly is an intermediates paradise with so many red and blue pistes. Schlick 2000 and the Elfer offer tree-lined runs, spectacular mountain backdrops and rustic Glühwein huts, while up on the glacier you can enjoy the wide open bowls and great snow.
Proficient skiers will find a wide variety of pistes, with plenty of challenges. There are locally organised guided off-piste days and courses in off-piste safety, ski touring and telemark (local charge). The most famous 'back country' route is the 'Wilden Grub'n' - a 10km route with a total of 1,500m drop - fantastic.
The Stubai Glacier claims to be one of the best places for glacier skiing in the world. The glacier has a height of 3,200m, with a total of 62km of piste, accessed by swift, modern lifts. And if you're up for a challenge, there's a 10km downhill ski route from the Wildspitz top station.
If you're an avid off-pister, you can get your fix in Neustift. You'll find everything from wide slopes and narrow gorges to challenging descents and lots of deep powder snow. A good few routes are located on the Stubai Glacier, or try the famous backcountry route, the Wilden Grub'n', a 10km route with a crazy vertical drop of 1,500m.
