Sun-soaked skiing and spectacular scenery.
- One of the sunniest resorts in the Alps.
- Great mix of ski runs for beginners and advanced.
- Variety of accommodation to choose from.
Nicknamed the ‘Island in the Sun' thanks to 300+ sunny days a year, Alpe d'Huez is one of the 7 resorts that makes up the Alpe d'Huez Grand Domaine and offers access to the fifth largest ski area in France. With plenty of skiing for all abilities, from beginner to advanced, Alpe d’Huez is not your standard winter playground. On the slopes, you’ll find the longest ski run in the world, the Sarenne. If you’re feeling daring then try the Tunnel - a testing, steep and seemingly endless black run. Beginners have plenty of opportunity to learn on easy green runs and progress to the cruisey blues close to the resort.
Advanced skiers looking for more of a challenge can ski on the glacier, as well as taking on the legendarily tough black runs. The almost constant sunshine means conditions are usually good for beginners and intermediate skiers looking to build on their skill base.
Life away from the slopes is pretty exciting too, with just as much variety in terms of nightlife. If you’re up for some more relaxing activities you can take a dip in the outdoor swimming pool or take a turn around the resort’s ice skating rink. Once the sun goes down, head out to the bars and restaurants, where you’ll find a great variety of venues to suit you and your mood. There is a big choice of accommodation, although those looking for 5* or luxurious surroundings are recommended to book early to avoid disappointment.
